Glam Bump Top

Pattern: Glam Bump Top by Me
Yarn: Artfibers Sylph (Silk, Mohair, Wool), 1000 yards
Needles: US 5 Circulars

I wanted to design a maternity top that was chic, comfy, and could take me from late summer to fall. The Glam Bump Top is knit completely in the round from top to bottom so there is no seaming. The pattern involves a little short-row shaping on the front to allow extra room for a baby bump. It features garter stitch detailing in the yoke, front panel, and bottom hem as well as a cute knit flower embellished with a button for some extra glitz. I’m very happy with this FO, I think it’s one of the first garments I’ve designed that I actually really love. It’s comfy, cute, and a great way to cover my baby bump.

This pattern is now available for purchase & instant download (see below)! I’m also thinking of designing a non-maternity version with fewer gathers and no short-row shaping in front.

The Glam Bump Top by Christina Marie Dennis is an easy-to-knit, chic maternity knitted top. It’s knit in the round from top to bottom with no seaming and minimal shaping. Short rows in the front allow extra room for a growing Baby Bump. The simple stockinette stitch is accented by garter stitch detailing in the neck piece, the center panel and the bottom hem. The look is completed with an elegant knit flower accented with a button center. Knit in a light silk/mohair/wool blend, this piece is a perfect transitional top from summer to fall. A great gift for a mom-to-be or for yourself!

Baby Knit Addiction

It’s starting. Now that Baby is on the way, I’ve slowly become more and more addicted to baby knitting books, baby yarns, baby patterns, baby projects by Ravelers…. it’s getting pretty bad. I haven’t yet casted anything for Baby on the needles, but my collection and planning has started, and it’s gaining momentum.

Among my latest purchases:

(I couldn’t resist this one… don’t you just want to CUDDLE this baby in the bear suit??)

This one has the cutest little patterns (very gender-specific, so can’t really start on any until I know) for the super-trendy Baby.

I like this book for it’s neutral, easy pieces. Lots of classics in here that would serve Baby well!

Plus, I’ve purchased yarn for EZ’s Baby Sweater (of course!) in a sage-y green, a ducky hat and matching booties (soooo cute - I don’t know what it is with me and animal-themed baby stuff) and a coordinating cardigan.

Currently on my needles is a design of my own (I think I’ll call it the “Glam Bump Top”). It’s a top-down, knit in the round sleeveless tank out of a red silk blend with ruching at the bust and lots of extra short rows for the Baby Bump tummy. So far, I like it! It might just be my first creation that will actually turn out half-decently. I’ll share pics when it’s done (hopefully soon!). I’ve promised myself that I must finish it before I can move on to Baby things. We’ll see how that goes…

Peruvian Treasures

peruvian-treasures.jpg

My younger sister just got back last week from a missions trip in Peru. To my surprise, she brought me back some wonderful gifts! A hand-knit sweater (for my baby; currently in my tummy!!), a bear made from alpaca (I wish you could feel it… so soft!) and some Peruvian wool yarn. The Peruvian women knit and sell their FO’s to tourists, so Heidi had to ask one of them if she could purchase just the yarn and not a product… boy, do I feel special. Now, what to knit with it? Any ideas for a skein (not sure the yardage) of fingering weight wool?
